How to Play Q*bert (Japan)
Quick start
- Learn each diagonal hop near the summit.
- Land on cubes until they show the target colour.
- Use an available side disc when Coily closes in.
- On later rounds, avoid undoing cubes already finished.
Controls
The diagonally oriented four-way joystick selects the neighbouring cube to hop onto. There is no ordinary attack button. Jumping off an edge without a disc loses a life; a disc returns Q*bert to the top.
Q*bert (Japan) — About this game
Q*bert (Japan) changes the pyramid’s cubes by landing on them, with the round complete only when every cube shows the target colour. Later rules may require an intermediate colour or allow another landing to undo a finished cube. Coily follows the hopper, while Slick and Sam reverse the work already done. A side disc carries Q*bert back to the summit and can lure a closely pursuing Coily off the edge. Learn the diagonal steps before visiting the lowest corner, then plan the return so another landing does not reverse the required colour.
