Quick start
- Learn the fighter’s Light and Medium Slash reach.
- Press both slash buttons for the heavy attack.
- Use the fourth action with movement to explore evasion.
- Wait for a useful opening before committing to a slower strike.
Controls
A is Light Slash, B is Medium Slash, C is Kick and A + B is Heavy Slash. Hold D for meditation. D with directional inputs supplies hops, low evasion, rolls or a low stance; these are separate from the ordinary attack buttons.

Samurai Shodown V gives its weapon duels a dedicated defensive and movement action beside the ordinary slashes and kick. Light and Medium Slash combine into the heavy attack, while the fourth button supports evasive movement or meditation. The earlier Slash/Bust character split is gone, so each fighter has one move set to learn. Choosing when to evade matters as much as committing to a heavy strike. Begin with the reach of a light slash, then use the movement action to leave the next attack’s line before trying a slower response.
