How to Play Tetris (Japan, rev 1, Taito H-System)

Quick start

  1. Start and examine both the falling piece and the NEXT preview.
  2. Move left or right and rotate until the shape fits the intended gap.
  3. Hold down only after choosing a position to make the piece descend faster.
  4. Complete solid horizontal lines, and avoid burying empty spaces under new pieces.

Controls

  • Joystick left/right: move the falling piece. Down: accelerate its descent.
  • The three rotation buttons all turn the piece in the same direction.
  • A completed horizontal line clears automatically.

Tetris (Japan, rev 1, Taito H-System) — About this game

Sega's arcade Tetris gives you a ten-column field and a sequence of seven shapes, each assembled from four square blocks. Your task is to turn and position each falling piece so that horizontal lines contain no gaps. Completed lines disappear, making room for the next pieces and keeping the stack away from the top. A preview shows the next shape, letting you prepare a space before it arrives rather than react only to the current piece. Clearing four lines with the long piece creates a Tetris, but building a tall stack for that reward also increases the risk of leaving awkward holes. As levels rise, the time available for placement shrinks. The appeal lies in maintaining a manageable surface while deciding when to pursue a larger clear and when to lower the stack immediately.
