How to Play Blades of Steel
Quick start
Choose Junior difficulty and Exhibition for the first match. On offense, pass before a defender closes and watch the moving goal arrow before shooting. On defense, use B to switch to the player nearest the puck and keep the goalie aligned with the arrow. Avoid repeated reckless checks until you understand the fight and penalty systems.
Controls
On offense, the D-pad skates in eight directions, B passes toward a teammate, and A shoots. On defense, the D-pad moves the flashing defender or goalie, B switches to the defender nearest the puck, and A is unused. At face-offs press B as the puck drops. In fights, B punches, A guards, and Up/Down with either button changes punch or guard height.
Blades of Steel — About this game
Blades of Steel is Konami's brisk NES interpretation of ice hockey, built around three periods and six-man teams of three forwards, two defensemen, and a goalie. Players can enter an exhibition, work through a tournament, or face a friend. Offense emphasizes passing and timing shots against a moving aim marker, while defense requires switching to the nearest skater and lining up the goalie. Repeated checking can trigger penalties or a separate fighting sequence that creates a power play.
