How to Play Blades of Steel
Quick start
Use Junior Exhibition to learn the rink. Move the puck with short passes and shoot when the goal arrow reaches an opening. Once possession changes, tap B to select the closest defender and line the goalie up with the same arrow. Save aggressive checking for situations where you can survive a lost fight and the resulting power play.
Controls
Offense: D-pad skates in eight directions, B passes toward a teammate, A shoots. Defense: D-pad moves the highlighted skater or goalie, B selects the defender closest to the puck, and A has no function. Press B at the puck drop for a face-off. During fights, B punches and A guards; combine Up/Down with them to vary punch and guard height.
Blades of Steel — About this game
Konami's Blades of Steel delivers arcade-paced hockey on NES across three action-heavy periods. In one-player mode you can pick an exhibition or tournament and choose Junior, College, or Pro difficulty; two players select teams for a direct match. The puck carrier passes and shoots toward a moving target marker, while the defending player switches skaters and manually tracks the goal with the goalie. Excessive contact may lead to a fight or a penalty shot rather than a normal stoppage.
