How to Play Uncharted Waters
Quick start
Buy sugar in Lisbon, reduce the crew of the tiny starting vessel to a practical number, and load enough food and water. Follow the coast north and then east to Bordeaux, sell the Lisbon cargo, and buy a local specialty for the return trip. Repeating this short route builds money and sailing experience with modest risk. Inspect supplies and hull damage before each departure, remain near known coastlines early on, and save frequently through the SELECT menu.
Controls
In port, use the D-pad to walk. In buildings, the D-pad highlights choices, A confirms, and B cancels. At sea, the D-pad sets the compass bearing; A sets sail or opens sea commands, while B also opens the command menu. SELECT opens save/options. For quantities, Left/Right selects a digit, Up/Down changes its value, and A enters it. In naval battle, select a destination or command with the D-pad and confirm with A.
Uncharted Waters — About this game
The US NES release of Uncharted Waters is a seafaring simulation RPG set in 1502. Starting in Lisbon as a young Portuguese captain, you manage a small fleet, trade regional goods, recruit crew, load provisions and discover ports around the world. Wealth and fame can come from commerce, royal assignments, exploration or fighting pirates and hostile nations. Wind, food, water, crew numbers and hull damage shape every voyage, while naval encounters use a tactical map governed by heading, terrain and firing range. Better ships open longer routes, and rising fame advances the story of your fallen family and the missing princess.
