How to Play Dig Dug II
Quick start
Study the stakes before drilling and begin with small, easy cuts. Use the pump to remove isolated enemies, then lure a cluster onto the smaller side of a planned fault line. Drill the final stake only after Dig Dug is standing on the section that will remain. If he teeters at an edge, keep walking toward land to recover. Avoid staying horizontally aligned with a Fygar. After game over, use Up/Down on the READY screen to select any round already reached, then press A or B.
Controls
D-pad: move in four directions. A: use the drill at a stake, extending a crack in the direction Dig Dug faces. B: shoot the inflator and keep pumping an impaled enemy. SELECT: choose one or two players on the title screen. START: begin, pause or resume. In continue mode, press Up/Down on READY to select a cleared/reached round and A or B to start it.
Dig Dug II — About this game
Dig Dug II moves Namco's hero from underground tunnels to fixed-screen islands. Every round is cleared by removing all Pookas and Fygars, either by inflating them with the familiar pump or by standing on stakes and drilling cracks that divide the land. When a closed fault line splits the island, the smaller section sinks along with every monster on it, producing larger bonuses for bigger groups. The same collapse can drown Dig Dug if he remains on the wrong side, and Fygars still breathe fire across horizontal lanes. Across 72 rounds, success comes from steering enemies into a disposable section and preserving a safe route back to solid ground.
