How to Play Rock 'n Ball
Quick start
Begin with Traditional Pinball to learn the controls. Press D-pad Left for the left flipper and A for the right, reserving B and D-pad Right for emergency nudges. Once you can keep the ball alive, use Nine Ball to practice aimed shots, then try Battle and Sports modes where special flippers, rotating parts, and goal defense matter more than a raw score chase.
Controls
D-pad Left: left flipper; A: right flipper; B: nudge left; D-pad Right: nudge right. Battle Flipper uses D-pad Up/Down to launch or retract its special flipper. Sports Pinball assigns additional rotation and goalkeeper actions by table; consult the mode diagrams in the official manual.
Rock 'n Ball — About this game
Rock 'n Ball is the North American adaptation of Family Pinball, offering four distinct approaches rather than a single table. Traditional play emphasizes scoring and ball survival; Nine Ball asks you to complete numbered targets; Battle Flipper turns the table into a direct contest with special mechanisms; and Sports Pinball borrows goals and goalkeepers from soccer and hockey. The US release removes the Japanese game's Namco and Pac-Man presentation, but preserves the varied table objectives and unusual split-button flipper controls.
