How to Play Athletic World
Quick start
Set the Family Trainer mat to Side A and select Hurdle Meadow first. Alternate the two instructed panels to run, lift both feet just before an obstacle to jump, then step back down to land. Later courses change which upper, middle, or lower panels are active. In emulation, confirm that the Japanese Family Trainer input device is supported and mapped before starting; an ordinary gamepad layout is not equivalent.
Controls
Family Trainer Side A: alternately press the course's paired left/right panels to run; release both panels to jump and press again to land. Tunnel and other courses use designated upper, middle, or lower pad positions. Competitive play requires the floor-mat input rather than standard controller buttons.
Athletic World — About this game
This Japanese Famicom edition of Athletic World uses the Family Trainer floor mat, Side A, to turn footsteps into game input. Five obstacle courses—Hurdle Meadow, Animal Trail, Tunnel, Log Bridge, and Rafting—ask for different combinations of rapid alternating steps, jumps, and high or low mat positions. It is the Japanese release with the original Family Trainer hardware interface, not the later North American Power Pad cartridge, so emulator accessory support and mapping must be configured for the correct build.
