How to Play Flight of the Intruder
Quick start
Select a waypoint on the map and press A or Start. Hold Left to bring takeoff thrust to 100%, then use B for landing gear and A for the arrestor hook. During F-4 combat, fly with the D-pad, hold B plus Up/Down to change thrust, switch guns or missiles with Select, and fire with A. During recovery, deploy both gear and hook, stabilize near 50% thrust, and touch down with vertical velocity below 10.
Controls
D-pad: Up dives, Down climbs, Left/Right banks; on takeoff/landing Left increases and Right decreases thrust. A: begin waypoint/fire/toggle arrestor hook. B: bombs or radar missiles; hold with Up/Down to adjust cockpit thrust; toggle landing gear. Select: waypoint or weapon. Start: begin waypoint/pause.
Flight of the Intruder — About this game
Flight of the Intruder is a carrier aviation simulation for NES built around twelve missions during the 1972 Linebacker campaign. Operations are divided into waypoints: launch from USS Constellation, intercept MiG-21s with the F-4 Phantom, strike ships and ground installations with the A-6 Intruder, then recover safely aboard the carrier. Cockpit combat, rear-view bombing, map selection, and takeoff or landing screens each reinterpret the same controller, making careful reading of instruments as important as reflexive shooting.
