How to Play Ninja Kid
Quick start
Move Kitaro around the island map with the D-pad and enter one of the available temples. Read the quota at the top of the action screen and focus on that objective rather than chasing score. Press A to jump and B to fire hair needles; SELECT changes to a collected special weapon. Hold Down and press A to drop through a platform. When the quota reaches one, watch for useful flute drops, and always collect the falling challenge scroll because it is required to unlock the final route. After two exits appear, be prepared for either a return to the map or an immediate monster fight.
Controls
D-pad: move in action stages and on the island map; steer freely during kite stages. A: jump, with height based on how long it is held; Down + A drops through a platform. B: fire the standard or selected weapon. SELECT: choose and use collected special weapons. START: begin or pause the game. Attack and jump buttons are unavailable on the island map where noted by the manual.
Ninja Kid — About this game
GeGeGe no Kitaro: Yokai Daimakyo is the Japanese original of the game later adapted overseas as Ninja Kid. Kitaro travels across an island map and enters temples that lead to one of four action formats: capturing spirits, defeating a quota of enemies on foot, fighting in the air, or guiding a flame to a set of candles. Clearing the quota opens two exits, but one may lead to a monster battle instead of returning safely to the map. Kitaro attacks with hair needles and collected special weapons, and a single collision with most enemies or projectiles costs a life. Progress ultimately depends on finding a challenge scroll, confronting Nurarihyon, and entering the sealed demon castle.
