How to Play Ghostbusters II

Quick start

Press Start or A at the logo, choose one or two players with Select or Left/Right, and confirm with Start or A. In the opening tunnel, keep moving ahead of the pursuing spider, use Up/Down to aim the slime blower, press A to shoot ghosts and logos, and press B to clear low hazards. Start drops one active trap for poltergeist-type flying objects that the blower cannot damage. Slime from enemies and your own weapon is slippery, so do not stand in it to trade shots. Twenty collected logos award an extra life, and the starting lives must last through every scene; prioritize safe routes and bonuses rather than rushing the timer blindly.

Controls

Running scenes: Left/Right runs, Up/Down raises or lowers aim, A fires the slime blower, B jumps, Start drops a ghost trap. Ecto-1A scenes: Up/Down changes lanes, Right accelerates, Left slows down, A fires the current weapon, B jumps. Statue of Liberty: Right/Left walks; after collecting a torch, Up aims right and Down aims left; A shoots fireballs from the torch and B uses one collected book bomb. Menus: Start or A advances; Select or Left/Right chooses one or two players. These are for Activision's Ghostbusters II, not New Ghostbusters II.

Ghostbusters II — About this game

Ghostbusters II is Imagineering and Activision's NES adaptation of the second film, distinct from HAL Laboratory's New Ghostbusters II. The team must cross seven increasingly difficult scenes before confronting Vigo at the Manhattan Museum of Art. On-foot stages send a Ghostbuster running through Van Horne Station, the courtroom, subway, and museum while firing the slime blower, jumping hazards, and placing traps. Driving stages turn the Ecto-1A into a lane-changing action sequence with weapons, jumps, power-ups, and collapsing roads. A third format puts the Statue of Liberty under player control as she marches through ghost-filled harbor and city routes. A two-player game is alternating rather than simultaneous: players take turns on the same scene, while lives and collected logos must be managed across the campaign.
