How to Play Ghosts 'n Goblins
Quick start
At the title screen, use SELECT to choose 1 PLAYER or 2 PLAYERS, then press START. Arthur begins with the straight-flying lance. Move cautiously through the cemetery, clear enemies before committing to a jump and do not collect every jar weapon automatically, because a pickup replaces the weapon you are carrying. Protect the first suit of armour, search suspicious spaces for a hidden replacement and defeat each boss to collect its key. If all lives are lost, choose CONTINUE to resume from the beginning of the stage where the run ended.
Controls
D-pad Left/Right moves Arthur; Up/Down climbs ladders, and Down crouches when he is on the ground. A jumps. B attacks by throwing the equipped weapon; B can also be pressed while crouching or after a jump to attack from those positions. SELECT chooses the one-player or two-player game on the title screen and has no effect during play. START begins the selected game and pauses or resumes an active game.
Ghosts 'n Goblins — About this game
The European NES release of Ghosts 'n Goblins is a punishing side-scrolling action game in which a knight enters the Demon Realm to rescue a kidnapped princess. Zombies, demons and other undead creatures crowd the route, and each stage ends with a boss whose key opens the next gate. Arthur begins in armour: one enemy hit removes it, while another hit, a fall or an expired timer costs a life and sends him back to the stage start or its midpoint. Enemies carrying jars may drop replacement weapons, while restorative armour is hidden inside the stages, so survival depends as much on route knowledge and weapon choice as on quick reactions.
