How to Play Godzilla: Monster of Monsters!

Quick start

Press Start at the title, choose New Game, and begin on Earth's Ring Field. Move the hex cursor onto Godzilla or Mothra and press A, plot a legal route with the D-pad, then press A again to commit; B cancels. Godzilla can move two hexes per turn, while Mothra can move four. Every crossed terrain hex becomes an action stage, and contact with an enemy monster triggers a timed kaiju battle. Mothra's mobility makes her a forgiving first choice for learning stage layouts, but keep Godzilla gaining levels for tougher fights. On the map, press Select while the white cursor is visible to display and record your current password.

Controls

Hex map: D-pad moves the cursor or selected monster along the hex routes; A selects and confirms a move; B cancels; Select displays the password. Godzilla battle controls: Left/Right walk, Up jumps, Down crouches, A punches, B kicks, Down+B performs the tail chop, Start fires atomic breath and spends Power, Select pauses. Mothra battle controls: D-pad flies in eight directions, A or B fires the eye beam, Start releases poisonous powder and spends Power, Select pauses. These controls are for the first Godzilla: Monster of Monsters!, not Godzilla 2.

Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! — About this game

Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! combines a turn-based planetary map with side-scrolling action rather than presenting a simple run of one-on-one fights. Godzilla and Mothra travel from Earth towards Planet X, clearing the terrain represented by each hex and engaging hostile kaiju whenever the pieces meet. Godzilla is slower on the map and fights with punches, kicks, a tail attack, and atomic breath; Mothra can move farther, fly around many stage hazards, and use eye beams or poisonous powder. Defeating enemies raises levels and expands Life and Power, while passwords preserve campaign progress across eight Ring Fields. This record is the European PAL release, but the game itself uses the overseas English title and the same documented NES control scheme.
