How to Play Golf
Quick start
Select one-player stroke play and press START. Check wind and distance, change clubs with Up/Down and aim with Left/Right. Tap A to begin the backswing, again at the desired power, and a third time at the white line. Avoid forcing a 1W when a shorter club can stay on the fairway. For a putt, move the target against the grain mark and use two A presses, with the second setting roll distance.
Controls
On the Japanese Famicom original, D-pad Up/Down cycles clubs and Left/Right turns the golfer; on the green it moves the target. A starts the backswing, sets power on press two and fixes impact on press three. Putting needs two presses. SELECT chooses 1-player stroke, 2-player stroke or 2-player match; START begins; B has no function. Player two uses Controller II.
Golf — About this game
Nintendo's Japanese Famicom original turns a full par-72 round into a clear two-view sports game. Released in 1984, it measures course and club ranges in metres. One player chases the lowest stroke total; two players alternate in stroke play or decide each hole in match play. The meter controls power and impact: a third press on the white line sends the ball straight, while an early or late stop creates slice or hook. Forests, out-of-bounds areas, water and bunkers make safe placement as important as maximum distance.
