How to Play Gun-Nac

Quick start

Press Start for the standard opening setup, move in eight directions with the D-pad, fire the primary weapon with B, and spend a bomb with A. Select cycles ship speed from 1 (slowest) to 4 (fastest), so use a slower setting for tight dodges and raise it when crossing the screen. Collect the same numbered weapon or lettered bomb to increase its level; taking a different number or letter switches the equipped type rather than cycling it with a button. Gather money and, after an area, use the D-pad and A in the shop; B cancels. A wing enlarges a mini-ship and lets weapons grow beyond the unwinged limit. Bombs erase bullets, but do not treat them as guaranteed invincibility.

Controls

D-pad: move the ship in eight directions; choose title and shop options. B: fire the current primary weapon; cancel a shop choice. A: use the current bomb; confirm a shop choice. Select: cycle movement speed through levels 1–4. Start: begin, pause, and confirm a Continue-screen option. Weapon and bomb types are not changed by a dedicated button: collecting a different numbered weapon or lettered bomb equips that type, while a matching pickup powers it up.

Gun-Nac — About this game

This Japanese Famicom release sends Commander Gun-Nac across eight planets of IOTA Synthetica, where animated household objects and giant creatures form an intentionally strange shooting gallery. Five numbered primary weapons and four lettered bomb types reward commitment: taking a matching item strengthens the current system, while a different item changes it. Money bags fund weapon exchanges, firepower, bombs, and a protective wing in the supply shop after most areas. The Japanese cartridge uses Japanese menus and retains material later altered for North America; the overseas ASCII release also shortened the final boss and changed parts of the ending, so this record describes the 1990 Tonkin House version.
