How to Play Hanjuku Hero
Quick start
Choose New Game and scenario one, the easiest map. Use Select for the overview, then return to the close map and place the cursor on your castle. Press A, choose Attack, select a general, give them any trump cards, press B when inventory selection is finished, confirm the order, and mark a nearby weak castle as the goal with A. Build income before spreading too far; keep enough soldiers at home and reserve money for monthly recruitment or construction. In ordinary combat, tap A in rhythm while the red gauge remains, but open the B menu when an Egg summon or trump card can prevent losses. Protect the prince and retain at least one castle at all times.
Controls
D-pad: move the cursor and choose commands or destinations. A: confirm and open a window; during ordinary battle, tap repeatedly to spend the red gauge and support your soldiers. B: cancel or return; during battle, open the Trump Card, Egg, and Retreat menu. Select: toggle the overview map and assist long-range destination selection. Start: open or close the system display. On the title screen, D-pad or Select moves the choice, while A or Start confirms.
Hanjuku Hero — About this game
Hanjuku Hero is Square's 1988 single-player strategy RPG for Famicom. After the old king dies, the inexperienced prince is left with one castle and a handful of retainers; victory requires taking every enemy stronghold, while losing the hero or all friendly castles ends the campaign. Generals march toward assigned destinations in real time, so expansion, defense, monthly income, soldiers, castle construction, and consumable trump cards must be balanced together. Troops clash automatically in battle, but rhythmic A presses spend a red support gauge to raise their damage. B opens commands for a trump card, retreat, or an Egg Monster summon. Eggs weaken after repeated use and can be restored or changed through the monster castle, adding a playful but substantial resource system across three increasingly difficult scenarios.
