How to Play Hatris
Quick start
Press START at the title and choose STAGE 0 and SHOP 0 for practice, confirming each setting with A, then select MUSIC. Slide the pair toward matching hats and use A to reverse its order before dropping. Wait until the placement is safe before pressing Down, because it sends the hats straight down. Keep unlike shapes out of an almost completed stack of five.
Controls
Left/Right moves the falling pair. Down drops it immediately. A exchanges the two hats; in menus it confirms. D-pad selects STAGE, SHOP and MUSIC; B cancels a setting and returns to the previous one. START enters the menu and pauses/resumes during play. SELECT is unused.
Hatris — About this game
The Japanese Famicom edition of Hatris is a compact stacking puzzle in which shape matters as much as color. Every incoming pair can slide across six columns or exchange positions, but a mismatched hat interrupts a run and can waste valuable headroom. Five consecutive matching hats disappear, opening room for the next pair. Speed is set with STAGE, while SHOP determines how many nuisance hats are present at the beginning. Start gently to learn how each shape nests, then increase the challenge. This 1990 version has its own presentation and rules; the workers from the later American NES edition are absent.
