How to Play High Speed

Quick start

From the title, use START to enter player selection and START again after choosing. Pull back the plunger by holding A and let go to shoot. Try a controlled launch rather than always using maximum power. Use the upper-right flipper to set up ramp shots; once all traffic-light targets are complete, two ramp shots lead into the chase and multiball. Save nudges for danger near a drain.

Controls

D-pad (any direction): left flipper. A: right flippers; hold at the launcher to pull back the plunger, then release to launch. B: shake the playfield left. SELECT: shake it right. D-pad+A+B together: use a Lightning Bomb when available. START: select options or pause (hold briefly during play). Avoid repeated nudges that cause tilt.

High Speed — About this game

The American NES version of High Speed takes the basic Williams pinball layout and adds encounters possible only in a video game. A tumbleweed can catch your ball and drop it between the flippers; bombs and rust balls threaten the equipment you need to survive. These dangers sit alongside the main scoring plan: finish the stoplight targets in order and make the ramp shots that begin the police pursuit and multiball. Three balls form the normal starting allowance, with extra balls available through play. Safe and helicopter collections also open separate bonus challenges, including a table where shots influence a car race. One to four participants can take turns, each trying to manage the same hectic mix of ball control and scoring opportunities.
