How to Play Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja
Quick start
For a controlled first attempt, open the title's options with SELECT. Highlight the player-count row with up/down and alter it with SELECT until one player is selected. START returns to the title; press START again to play. Practise the difference between A and Up + A before committing to a large gap. Use B for a short axe throw, Up + B to attack overhead, and collect food when it appears to replenish energy.
Controls
Use left/right to run and Down to duck. A gives a normal jump, while holding Up with A gives a higher somersault. B releases the equipped weapon; holding B charges it, and releasing fires the charged attack. Do not keep charging until Joe is dizzy. Up + B aims straight upwards. At the title, SELECT opens options; up/down highlights a row and SELECT alters it. START starts or pauses/resumes the game.
Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja — About this game
The European NES edition of Joe & Mac turns the prehistoric rescue into five stages spread across ten territories. Joe has to get past rival cavemen and wildlife before confronting the large creature guarding each area. His basic stone axe does not travel far, so the weapon revealed by an egg-carrying enemy can be an important find. A boomerang, fire or stone wheel changes the way attacks travel. Food helps replenish the energy bar, while charging a throw for too long can leave Joe defenceless. The two-player setting is turn-taking: both players guide Joe in succession rather than running through the stage together.
