How to Play Joe & Mac
Quick start
Use SELECT on the title to reach the option screen. Move up/down to the player option and use SELECT to set one player; START returns to the title, where START begins the game. Move with left/right and jump with A. For a higher leap hold Up and press A. Start with short B throws to learn the axe's range, then try charging B and releasing before Joe gets dizzy. Defeat egg-carrying enemies and collect the revealed weapon if you want to replace your current one.
Controls
D-pad left/right runs and Down crouches. A is jump; Up + A is the higher somersault. B throws the weapon Joe currently holds. Hold B to charge and release it to attack; overcharging can leave him defenseless. Up + B throws vertically. SELECT enters title options and changes a highlighted option, with up/down moving between rows. START starts, pauses and resumes.
Joe & Mac — About this game
The US NES Joe & Mac follows Joe's effort to bring back the women kidnapped from his prehistoric village. Five levels contain ten territories, mixing jumps, hostile cavemen and creatures that require different attack angles. Pickups replace the current weapon instead of creating an inventory to cycle through: a short-range stone axe can give way to a boomerang, fire or a stone wheel. Charged throws and high somersaults give Joe more ways to approach danger, while food restores energy. Boss fights display the enemy's energy alongside Joe's, making progress visible. A second human player can join through the alternating-turn mode, not simultaneous co-op.
