How to Play Toki
Quick start
Use SELECT to choose one player or alternating two-player play. In the opening terrain, shoot ahead with B before committing to jumps. Try upward and diagonal shots for elevated targets. Stomp only when you can land squarely from above, since side contact is dangerous. Pick up coins and useful upgrades without forgetting that attack enhancements expire.
Controls
D-pad moves and directs fire. A jumps; B shoots. Hold Up or a diagonal direction with B to aim accordingly, or use Down combinations for low attacks. Landing on an enemy from above performs a stomp. START pauses. SELECT chooses the player count before play; two-player mode alternates rather than playing simultaneously.
Toki — About this game
JuJu Densetsu follows an ape-transformed hero through six stages of monsters and platform hazards. Shooting is directional, so enemies above or diagonally ahead can be attacked without simply waiting for them to line up. Landing on an enemy’s head provides a second offensive option. Temporary upgrades change shot patterns, while shoes improve jumping. This Japanese release should not be described with the American version’s heart meter: its manual treats enemy fire and flame contact as life-losing mistakes. Collecting twenty coins adds a reserve life, rewarding careful exploration rather than reckless item chasing.
