How to Play Toki
Quick start
In the first stage, shoot right with B before approaching the initial enemies, then practise jumping between platforms with A. Use Up+B when a target sits above you rather than jumping blindly into it. Watch both the heart display and remaining time. On vines, use Up/Down to climb while planning where you will jump or fire next.
Controls
Left/right moves; Up/Down climbs vines. A jumps and B shoots. D-pad combinations allow crouching or crawling fire, upward and diagonal shots, or shooting while walking and jumping. START pauses and resumes. SELECT is not used during play.
Toki — About this game
The American NES release of Toki turns a rescue journey into a platform adventure with directional shooting. Vookimedlo has transformed the hero into an ape, but he can still fight through the dangerous terrain toward the Golden Palace. Movement and firing work together: crouch for low targets, aim upward at elevated enemies or shoot during a jump. This version displays a heart meter as well as reserve lives, making health management part of surviving each stage. A separate enemy meter appears for bosses, and the timer also matters: running it down costs a life.
