How to Play Karnov
Quick start
Press START, then use A to jump and B to attack. Pick up the early power-up orbs and ladder. To reach an elevated item, stand beneath it, move the item cursor onto the ladder and press SELECT. Check the cursor again after moving, since walking also changes the selection. For the Japanese version's limited continue, hold START and SELECT while the god's Game Over message is displayed; this can be used twice.
Controls
The directional pad moves Karnov; left/right also changes the selected inventory item. A jumps, B attacks and SELECT activates the highlighted usable item. START begins play and pauses or resumes it. Flashing item icons indicate that they can be used. In this Japanese release, hold START+SELECT during the god's Game Over message to continue, up to twice.
Karnov — About this game
In the Japanese Famicom edition, Karnov is a wrongdoer sent back to Earth by a god to drive out monsters and redeem his past. That story, told through scenes between stages, distinguishes this release from the American treasure-hunting premise. The action mixes fireball attacks and jumping with a useful collection of tools. A ladder reaches awkward ledges, boots improve jumping and bombs clear certain obstacles. Collected orbs strengthen your shots or restore Karnov after he turns blue from damage. Item selection shares the left/right movement inputs, so check the highlighted icon before activating anything. Survival depends on learning the route as well as shooting accurately.
