How to Play Castelian
Quick start
Press Select at the title, leave the game on one player, and set the difficulty to NOVICE. Up/Down move the options marker; Select changes the highlighted choice. Start begins play. Practise firing with A while stationary, then walking Left/Right with A to jump. Up takes a lift or enters a passage. Do not expect shooting to clear every enemy; use the tower's doors to find another route.
Controls
Left/Right walk; stationary A fires a ball; walking Left/Right+A jumps. Up enters a passage or takes an ascending lift, and Down lowers the lift. Start pauses. Title-screen options are opened and changed with Select, using Up/Down to choose a row. For the Japanese password feature, select PASSWORD, set letters with Up/Down and advance the position with A. Select, then Start, starts the recorded stage.
Castelian — About this game
Kyorochan Land gives the Castelian tower-climbing game a Japanese mascot makeover. Instead of Julius, the bird from Morinaga's Choco Ball climbs eight hostile towers to restore peace. Progress depends on reading the route round each tower, using lifts and moving through doors to reach another side. Losing height to an enemy can cost valuable time, and some hazards must be avoided rather than shot. The ball attack and the jump share A, so stopping to aim is a different action from jumping whilst walking. Four-letter passwords are a feature of this Japanese edition.
