How to Play Conquest of the Crystal Palace

Quick start

Start the Japanese version with START and choose one of the opening crystal benefits. Practice A jumps and B attacks on the mountain, gathering coins for the first shop. Hold Down and tap A to change the selected weapon; the dog selection calls or dismisses your companion. Watch both health meters before spending money. If a run ends, the Japanese manual allows START within ten seconds to continue at that stage, up to three times.

Controls

Left/Right: move. A: jump. B: attack with the selected weapon. Hold Down and press A to select weapons or toggle Dodonpa; use a single A press for the dog toggle. START starts, advances the demonstration, pauses/resumes, and accepts a continue. After buying the dog whistle, Up draws the dog close; holding it for a while and releasing performs the special dog attack. The Japanese manual also describes a rear slash: press the opposite direction at the instant B is pressed.

Conquest of the Crystal Palace — About this game

Matendouji makes its first upgrade a choice: take a lasting projectile ability, more health, or a higher jump before tackling its five-stage journey. Your sword remains useful whichever benefit you pick, while a separately powered dog can help when enemies crowd the screen. The route mixes ascending mountain platforms with elaborate temples and more unsettling environments, so reaching the next fight is as important as winning it. Coins give the adventure another rhythm: fight, collect, then decide what is worth buying at Rinpu's shop. Healing your companion competes with replenishing your own health and purchasing temporary advantages. The Japanese edition uses Tendou and Dodonpa rather than the American localization's character names. Learn the inventory shortcut early; changing your approach is more useful than treating every encounter as a straight sword duel.
