How to Play Metal Mech: Man & Machine

Quick start

In the opening city, move the walker with Left and Right and practice holding B while directing its gun. Shoot suspicious scenery and containers. When an item appears or a passage is too small, press SELECT+A to dismount and collect it on foot. Look for the level key before heading for the exit; simply walking to the end is not enough. Return close to the walker and press SELECT to board, as described in the Japanese manual. START opens the sub-screen for checking equipment and energy. Remember unexplored ladders and side passages rather than treating every street as a straight shooting corridor.

Controls

Walker: D-pad moves and aims the turret; A jumps; B fires; SELECT cycles weapons; SELECT+A ejects the pilot; SELECT+B uses a smart bomb. When you begin firing after choosing Left or Right, holding B keeps that travel direction while the D-pad changes aim. On foot: Left/Right move, A jumps, B shoots, and SELECT boards the nearby walker. START switches to/from the sub-screen; use the D-pad and A to select its commands. Boarding follows the Japanese manual, not the differently worded US control table.

Metal Mech: Man & Machine — About this game

Metal Flame Psybuster makes its armored walker only half of your toolkit. Its pilot can leave the cockpit to explore narrow passages and recover objects exposed by shooting scenery. That means a promising container is not merely a background detail: it could hold ammunition, protection, recovery supplies, or the key needed to move onward. The Japanese manual describes six areas ending in a maze-like enemy base. Staying inside offers protection and heavy firepower, but it cannot replace careful exploration on foot. Watch whose life is displayed after you dismount, and check the cockpit screen to see the machine's condition and collected equipment. The pace alternates between pushing through hostile streets and leaving the walker behind to investigate a route that it cannot use.
