How to Play Puss 'n Boots: Pero's Great Adventure
Quick start
Use SELECT to choose 1PLAYER or 2PLAYER, then press START. In the opening England stage, move with Left/Right, jump with A and throw swords with B. Watch gaps and take care on bridges that can collapse if you wait too long. Check the shape and color of boots before collecting them, since not every pickup helps. Keep an eye on power and the remaining days as you work toward the tower bell.
Controls
SELECT chooses the player-count mode; START begins, pauses and resumes. Left/Right move forward or back. On-foot stages 1, 4 and 8: A jumps, B throws swords. Boat/ice-yacht stages 2 and 6: A jumps, B throws bombs, Up attacks upward. Car stage 3: A jumps, B throws bombs. Submarine stage 5: A raises the craft, B fires torpedoes. Balloon stage 7: A raises the balloon, B drops bombs. Controller 2 is used for the second player in 2PLAYER mode.
Puss 'n Boots: Pero's Great Adventure — About this game
This Japanese Famicom adventure follows Pero's wager with Count Gruemon: he must travel around the world in eighty days and ring the tower bell at the appointed time. The journey begins in England and mixes platforming with vehicle stages across locations such as the Mediterranean, Arabia and Hong Kong. Pero throws swords while traveling on foot, then changes to bombs or torpedoes as the route puts him in a boat, car, submarine, ice yacht and balloon. The submarine and balloon rise with A rather than using the later American version's vehicle controls. Boots are not simply bonus points: their effects include restoring power, adding a life or changing the time remaining, and some shorten the deadline. The challenge is to preserve both Pero's remaining lives and his travel time while crossing hazards and reaching the final tower. This is the original eight-stage Japanese game, not the revised seven-stage American time-travel adventure.
