How to Play Puss 'n Boots: Pero's Great Adventure
Quick start
Press START on controller 1 at the title, then A on the journey map to begin. In the opening West stage, use Left/Right to move, A to jump onto buildings and B to fire. To change a weapon, press START, move the flashing marker with Left/Right and press B to equip it and resume. After Game Over, A returns to the title; SELECT moves the boot cursor to CONTINUE, and START returns you to the map and the stage you left.
Controls
Left/Right: move Pero. A: jump. B: fire the selected weapon. Down: crouch; while crouching, B drops Pero from a building or ledge. In vehicle sections, use the D-pad to guide the craft, with Up raising it as described by the manual. START pauses; while paused, Left/Right choose a weapon and B confirms it and resumes. At the title, START opens the map and A starts play. SELECT has no normal gameplay action but moves the title cursor to CONTINUE after returning from Game Over.
Puss 'n Boots: Pero's Great Adventure — About this game
Puss 'n Boots: Pero's Great Adventure gives the American NES release a time-travel story: after Pero helps a mouse escape, Count Gruemon and Dr. Gari-gari send him away into the past. Pero must defeat them and recover the machine that can take him home. The seven-stage route starts in the West and travels through ocean, desert and aerial areas before reaching London and New York. Walking sections ask you to jump between platforms and use selected weapons, while boats, a submarine, a car, an airplane and a balloon change how you get through the journey. You can pause to select a weapon instead of being limited to one attack throughout the ground stages. Hamburgers restore energy and boots temporarily protect Pero, with other pickups providing points or lives. This version has a different route, story and control details from the Japanese eight-stage game about an eighty-day wager.
