How to Play Michael Andretti's World GP
Quick start
Select WARMING UP with SELECT and advance with START. Choose the car with Up/Down and change the course with A/B. Start with the automatic PRERARI if you want to focus on steering and braking first. With a manual car in this Japanese version, Down shifts up and Up shifts down. Slow before bends and make small steering adjustments until you can complete clean laps.
Controls
A: accelerate while held; releasing it slows the car. B: brake. Left/Right: adjust steering in steps. Japanese-version manual gears: Down shifts up; Up shifts down. SELECT: choose a mode or end a run outside the Grand Prix final race. START: begin/pause/resume. In selection menus, Up/Down chooses the car; A/B cycles courses forward/back.
Michael Andretti's World GP — About this game
This Japanese Famicom racer offers WARMING UP, BATTLE MODE and GRAND PRIX MODE, with Satoru Nakajima introducing the circuits before practice. Its challenge is learning how the car responds rather than simply holding the accelerator. Steering changes in steps, corners need careful speed control, and manual cars require deliberate gear changes. Practice lets you select from sixteen tracks and four machines before taking on rivals. You can also race another player, challenge the computer or watch computer drivers compete. The Grand Prix builds a longer competition around race points and supports returning by password. This Japanese version keeps its own car names and shift directions: do not apply the American Michael Andretti release’s gear instructions to it.
