Adventure Island II (Beta) — About this game

This NES prerelease follows Higgins through side-scrolling island terrain, where moving forward and keeping his vitality supplied must be balanced. Fruit along the route provides a reason to adjust a jump rather than simply rush underneath every platform. Enemies, gaps and awkward landing positions make the approach to each obstacle important: build speed where there is space, then judge where the jump will end. The sequel’s eggs and dinosaur companions form part of its identity, but this early build should be approached on its own terms rather than with a promise that every retail room, mount or shortcut is unchanged. Its title screen bears a 1990 copyright, whereas this is the prototype publicly released in 2009. Begin with the opening stretch, learn how quickly Higgins moves and leave enough room to react when collecting food. The version is preserved as Beta; no complete list of differences or retail-equivalent completion claim has been established.
