How to Play Gimmick! (Japan Beta)

Quick start

At the title choose START rather than CONTINUE, then press START. The map appears; press START again to enter the first stage. On the opening island, practise charging and releasing a star on safe ground, then jump onto its bounce before attempting a difficult gap.

Controls

Left/right moves Yumetaro; A jumps. Hold B to form a star and release B to throw it. Down changes the selected stored item; up+B uses it. START pauses or resumes. In this Beta, controller 2 has debug commands enabled: A refills items and HP; its D-pad warps among stage checkpoints and B clears the stage (A+B requests the good-ending route). Keep controller 2 untouched for ordinary play.

Gimmick! (Japan Beta) — About this game

Yumetaro follows the kidnapped girl into a world where a star’s bounce matters as much as the jump button. Hold the attack to create a star, release it and watch how slopes and walls change its path. A well-placed throw can remove an enemy or carry Yumetaro toward a hidden ledge; a careless one leaves him waiting for the next opportunity. The six main stages mix these small physical puzzles with enemies and bosses that punish rushing. Ordinary progress reaches one ending, but hidden treasures collected without using a continue lead to a further stage and the complete rescue. Learning safe landings and star timing first makes the secret routes far more approachable. This Japanese Beta retains the normal star-based adventure, but changes the opening/team credits and enables development commands on controller 2. The original public release author explicitly could not guarantee the physical source cartridge’s provenance.
