How to Play Whomp 'Em
Quick start
Press START at the title. Use the first world to practise A jumps, B spear attacks and downward thrusts, collecting hearts as needed. After reaching its end, select one of the six trials with the directional pad and confirm with A. Sacred Woods is a useful early choice; its guardian awards the rock-breaking Spear Whirlwind.
Controls
Left/right moves; down crouches and up holds the weapon overhead while standing. A jumps; B attacks with the spear/staff or selected power. In the air, up/down points the weapon for an upward/downward thrust. START begins at the title and cycles acquired powers during play. SELECT pauses/resumes. On the world map, choose a destination with the pad and confirm with A.
Whomp 'Em — About this game
Soaring Eagle sets out with a spear to gather magical totems for his pouch. A short opening world leads to six selectable trials through woods, water, fire and other dangerous terrain. Each defeated guardian supplies a different ability: a flame adds another attack, a cloud helps with movement, and a spinning spear can break rocks. Choosing the next destination therefore also decides which tool will become available earlier. The spear has a defensive side, too: hold it overhead against falling attacks, or point it up and down during jumps. Hearts restore lost health, while collecting gourds gradually raises its maximum. Once the six trials are complete, the final world opens. This American edition replaces the Japanese game’s Sun Wukong with Soaring Eagle and gives the quest a different setting.
