How to Play Nobunaga's Ambition

Quick start

Press A after the opening to enter setup. Choose Y for a new game, the 17-province mode and one player, then select a province and complete the ruler settings. B cycles the province-selection map sections. Difficulty 1 is a useful starting point. Once your turn arrives, check money, rice, flood protection and loyalty. Use Up/Down and A to choose an order. The command list has two pages, changed with Left/Right. Build a sustainable province before pushing your troops into a neighboring territory.

Controls

Control Pad: move between choices and enter numbers. A confirms; B normally cancels. For numerical entry, Up/Down changes a digit, Right advances and Left returns one digit; A confirms the completed amount. Up/Down selects an order and Left/Right switches command pages 1–12 and 13–21. From MAIN, B opens the local map; Up/Right goes north, Down/Left goes south, and A returns to MAIN. Use Left/Right for Y/N choices. These are original Japanese Famicom controls, not PC or Super Famicom shortcuts.

Nobunaga's Ambition — About this game

Zenkokuban offers a compact 17-province setting and a 50-province nationwide campaign, both beginning in spring 1560. As a daimyo, you must make each season count: develop farmland, improve flood protection, maintain support and prepare an army rather than treating conquest as a simple numbers race. Hiring more soldiers lowers the average readiness of the force, while money and rice must cover its upkeep. A successful domain needs the means to feed, equip and train its troops before committing them to a campaign. War takes place on a separate hex map, where orders move your units through the terrain. Your ruler's health also matters, so long-term survival is as much a part of unification as taking the next province.
