How to Play Pokémon FireRed Version
Quick start
Choose NEW GAME, select a gender and name, then leave the house in Pallet Town and walk north. Professor Oak stops you and takes you to his lab: choose one of the three starter Pokémon, win or leave the rival battle, then travel through Route 1 to Viridian City. Collect Oak's Parcel from the Poké Mart and return it to the lab to receive the Pokédex and begin the Gym journey.
Controls
D-pad moves and selects. A confirms, talks, checks the tile ahead and advances text. B cancels; after receiving Running Shoes, hold B while moving to run. START opens the field menu. SELECT uses a registered item and reorders items or battle moves. L opens the Help system; R also opens Help and changes chat characters. Battle commands use D-pad, A confirm and B back.
