How to Play R-Type III: The Third Lightning
Quick start
Begin a new game and choose Round, Shadow or Cyclone Force; their weapons and detached behaviour differ for the whole run. In Stage 1, hang back to read the enemy pattern, destroy POW armour for Force crystals and other upgrades, and use an attached Force as a front shield or launch it to reach threats from safety. Hold the shot input shown in-game to charge the Wave Cannon. There are six stages in this GBA port, and its five-character stage passwords should be written down before you stop playing.
Controls
D-pad: move the R-9Ø2 and navigate menus. L: detach the Force or call it back; its approach position determines front or rear docking. Hold the displayed Shot input to charge the Wave Cannon, and follow the game's control legend for rapid fire and Beam/Hyper switching. Available GBA evidence does not unambiguously map those functions or pause to A/B/R/START, while the handheld port removed remapping, so SNES face-button assignments are not substituted.
