How to Play Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Quick start
Press START, choose New Game, then set a scenario, player count, master, abilities, skill level, and computer behavior. Use one player and skill 1 for a gentler introduction. Inspect your state's generals and resources with View before spending its monthly order. Develop land or improve loyalty as needed, then prepare troops, gold, and rice before choosing War. Command 14, Quit, offers the game's save function.
Controls
START begins setup. Up/down select commands or change a number; left/right switch command pages or numeric places. A confirms, B cancels. On the main display, B opens the map when prompted; any button returns. Follow the controller number shown on screen. Battles use cursor-selected commands rather than action-game attack buttons.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms — About this game
Romance of the Three Kingdoms puts a ruler's judgment ahead of quick reflexes. Choose among five historical starting situations, recruit capable generals, and balance rice, gold, popular loyalty, and military strength across your states. Each state receives a monthly order, so expanding the army competes with developing land or rewarding followers. Wars move to a hex battlefield where supplies and defensive positions matter alongside troop numbers. Keeping a talented governor loyal can be as valuable as winning a siege. Scenario objectives provide milestones, but the eventual ambition is control of all 58 states.
