How to Play Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball

Quick start

Choose START and the one-player game, then select a field. Draft ten players with the D-pad and A. Check their assigned positions and batting order before confirming the final lineup with A. Swing with A; releasing it during the swing bunts. When fielding, move toward the ball, choose a base and throw with A. After a solo win, note the password on the scoreboard.

Controls

D-pad positions the batter; A swings and an early release bunts. Choose a base with the D-pad: B advances runners, A returns them. Steal with direction+B only after the pitcher releases the ball. Pitching: Up+A slow, Down+A fast, Up+B lob, Down+B rising pitch. Left/Right after release bends the pitch. Fielding: direction+A throws, direction+B dives, B alone jumps. START calls time.

Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball — About this game

Softball Tengoku is the Japanese game later adapted as Dusty Diamond's All-Star Softball. Its roster includes animals and other unusual characters rather than the largely human cast of the American release. Pick ten players from sixty, arrange their positions and batting order, and account for each field's obstacles. Some players can handle water or sand, while others have exceptional jumps or airborne abilities. The solo competition leads through five preliminary matches to the defending Amazones team. This Japanese version mixes conventional softball with character-specific surprises; it does not use the American release's separate Fast Pitch and Slow Pitch game selection.
