Press START at the title screen, choose MAIN GAME, then SINGLE PLAYER. For the clearest introduction, select Sonic as the lead and Tails as the partner—the only two characters available at first—and enter Route 99. From the Factory Ring in the hub, go right, break the floor barrier, hit the switch below, then use the new spring and chain to reach the Act 1 Ring. In the act, keep at least one ring for protection, reach the goal, and collect any Chao you spot. When a ledge is too high, hold R until the orange circles appear and Tails curls into position; release on the ground for a high launch or release in midair to fly, tapping A to gain height.

Left/Right walks or runs; Up looks upward; Down crouches or curls into a spin while moving. A confirms and jumps, attacks, or gains height during flight. B cancels or performs the current character/team's special attack. Hold and release R for the partner's Tag Action; eligible teams can also use R plus a direction for midair Trick Actions. START pauses. SELECT displays the Chao Map. In menus, use the Control Pad to select, A to confirm, and B to go back.
