How to Play Sonic Advance
Quick start
Press START on the title and select a character from "GAME START". If it's your first time, go to Neo Green Hill Zone Act 1 with Sonic, whose basic operations are easy to understand. If you have at least one ring, you won't immediately miss if you touch an enemy or a thorn, so first secure the ring and aim for the goal plate within 10 minutes while passing the point marker. Spin dash, where you press Down + A and release, is useful when entering a slope or loop.
Controls
Menu: Select with the cross button, confirm with A, cancel with B. During the game: Move left and right, look up at the top, crouch/spin while running at the bottom, jump/jump attack at A, character-specific attack at B, pause at START. Sonic releases Down + A for a spin dash, re-enters A in the air to expand the attack range, and presses R on the rail to grind. Tails presses A repeatedly in the air to fly, Knuckles holds A in the air to glide, and Emmy uses B to use the hammer.
