How to Play Glory Days: The Essence of War

Quick start

Choose a language in the European release, begin a new campaign from the main menu and select a difficulty. Mission 1 puts you in the Huey helicopter: leave your base, destroy hostile soldiers, vehicles and bunkers, and shield the friendly ground force as it advances. Pick up soldiers and unload them near enemy bunkers so they can capture the position. Captured bunkers earn credits that automatically pay for reinforcements and repair or refill your aircraft. If health or ammunition is low, turn back towards your base before the aircraft is lost; later missions alternate the Huey with a faster propeller fighter.

Controls

Menus: use the Control Pad to select and A to confirm; the European cartridge first offers a language choice. In mission briefings, R displays Help. Flight: the Control Pad steers and Start pauses. On the Huey help screen, A fires the machine gun or loads a soldier when in pickup position, B fires a missile or unloads a carried soldier, and R drops a paratrooper when available. Fighter missions also use A and B for the two attacks, but no inspected GBA source clearly labels an extra fighter shoulder-button action, so it is not inferred.
