From the title screen choose SINGLE PLAYER, press START, select SUPER MARIO WORLD and confirm with A; choose a language when offered, then select one of the three save files. On Yoshi's Island, leave Yoshi's House and move left to Yoshi's Island 1. Your first goal is to reach the goal gate; hit the flying block for an early Mushroom, duck under the first Banzai Bill, and collect the five Dragon Coins if you want the stage's 1-Up reward. On the world map, START opens the pause screen where this GBA version lets you save.

Use the Control Pad to move, crouch, enter doors or pipes and travel on the world map. A jumps, swims and confirms; hold it for a higher jump. Hold B while moving to run, use B to carry or throw objects, shoot fireballs, spin the Cape, or make Yoshi eat and spit. R performs a spin jump, dismounts Yoshi, and switches Mario/Luigi on the map. L pans the stage or, with the Control Pad, the world map. SELECT drops the reserve item during a stage or opens the Results screen on the map. START pauses and confirms; the map pause screen includes saving.
