Press START, choose a language, then press START at the title. Select an empty save slot with A and choose Easy, Normal or Hard. From the Main Menu choose Start Game, select Bolivia on the Level Select screen and press A after the introduction. Lara begins climbing a Bolivian cliff on her way to ancient ruins and a stone dais. Follow the on-screen lessons: use the D-Pad to climb along ledges, press B plus a direction to jump, and cross the first checkpoint before swimming through the waterfall pool. Push the boulder into the pit for a silver reward, then climb the vines and swing from the rope. Lara automatically grabs most ledges, but press A when a saving-grab icon appears. Checkpoints are saved automatically, so exploration is safe; bronze, silver and gold rewards buy Extras but are not required to finish the level.

D-Pad moves, runs, climbs, swims and pushes or pulls objects; B jumps, B plus a direction makes a directional jump, and Down+B rolls or drops to a lower ledge. A fires the selected weapon, activates switches and shoots marked environmental hazards. Hold R and press Left/Right to choose a weapon, grenade or health pack, release R, then press A to use it; tap R to holster. L throws the magnetic grapple; while hanging, press Left/Right to swing and B to release in a jump. SELECT opens Lara's PDA with objectives, data and gear. START pauses. On motorcycles, R accelerates, B brakes/reverses, Left/Right steers and A shoots. Menus use D-Pad, A confirm and B back.
