How to Play Super Spy Hunter

Quick start

Fire with B while keeping enough distance from the top of the screen to read the next bend. Shoot a carrier when its changing letter reaches P or R for early offensive upgrades; take L when the life gauge is low. Use A to direct the cannon in manual mode and let the C upgrade automate it when available. Only one blue special is held, so preserve a bomb or detached cannon for a packed hazard or boss phase.

Controls

D-pad moves in all directions; START begins and pauses, and SELECT is unused. In car sections, B fires and A aims manual cannons or activates the stored special. In boat sections, B fires and A operates manual cannons. In aircraft sections, B fires and A is unused. Red capsules activate immediately, whereas the current blue special is triggered with A during car play.

Super Spy Hunter — About this game

Battle Formula is Sunsoft's original Japanese release of the vehicular shooter later renamed Super Spy Hunter overseas. Its six vertically scrolling missions send an armed car along bending roads crowded with vehicles, turrets, gaps and large bosses. The machine also becomes a boat and an aircraft in designated sections. Red carriers provide automatic upgrades such as power, rapid fire, life and cannon behavior, while blue carriers supply one replaceable special weapon. Precise steering and choosing the right letter capsule matter as much as constant shooting.
