How to Play Bomberman II

Quick start

Never press A until you can see a safe turn beyond the blast. Clear a few soft blocks, take flame and bomb upgrades, then use intersecting corridors to trap enemies. After the last enemy falls, uncover the exit carefully. When the remote item is active, B detonates exactly when a target enters range. Choose VS for two players or Battle for three, where controlling open space is more valuable than maximum flame length.

Controls

D-pad moves and selects menus. A places a bomb. B remotely detonates bombs after the remote-control item is obtained in Normal mode. START starts, pauses and resumes. The manual applies the same base controls to Normal, VS and Battle, except remote detonation is Normal-only. Three-player Battle requires a Four Score and three controllers on original hardware.

Bomberman II — About this game

The Japanese Bomberman II is Hudson's Famicom sequel built around the familiar cross-shaped bomb blast. Black Bomberman frames White Bomberman for a bank robbery, sending the hero through six prison-break areas and 48 stages. Clearing a screen requires defeating every enemy and uncovering the exit beneath a destructible block. Items increase bomb capacity, blast reach and speed or grant remote detonation. Separate VS and Battle choices support two and three simultaneous players, with the latter using Four Score hardware on an original NES setup.
