How to Play Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf

Quick start

Begin in Practice and compare Birdie Tommy with the other golfers. Aim with the D-pad, choose a club with B, then use three A presses: start the meter, lock power, and lock impact. Keep the final press close to the centre marker before chasing maximum distance. On approach shots, change to a shorter club and account for wind; on the green, use a restrained meter rather than treating the putt like a full swing.

Controls

Use the D-pad to aim and alter shot options, including trajectory with Up/Down. B changes the selected club or setting. A runs the three-part swing: first press starts, second fixes power, third fixes impact and lateral curve. START begins or pauses, and SELECT moves through menu options. Putting follows the same meter principle, with the power press adjusted for distance and slope.

Lee Trevino's Fighting Golf — About this game

The Japanese Fighting Golf cartridge delivers the same strategic NES golf framework later marketed in North America with Lee Trevino, but its corresponding golfer is Birdie Tommy instead of Super Mex. Choose among golfers with different range and control traits, then tackle two 18-hole courses in Stroke Play, Nassau, or Practice. Every shot asks you to aim, select a club and trajectory, set power, and time impact for hook or slice. This entry describes the Japanese-text Famicom build rather than the Lee Trevino-branded US cartridge.
