Choose one of six protagonists, read the opening conversation carefully and follow that character’s first objective. Before sailing, recruit crew and divide the hold among food, water, timber, ammunition and trade goods; short European routes are the safest way to learn prices and build capital. Buy each port’s speciality where it is cheap and sell where demand is better, then invest in navigation skill, officers and a larger ship. Save in port before a long voyage. Each hero favours adventure, trade or combat differently, but every route depends on avoiding overload, watching fatigue and carrying enough supplies for the return leg.

The D-pad moves the character in town, steers the fleet at sea and navigates menus. C confirms highlighted commands and items, talks to people and opens Sea Commands. B cancels and scrolls through command menus. A displays name, gold and port data; hold A with Left for fleet data, Right for sea and provisions, or Up/Down for related information. Start opens the Options menu and shows the map inside buildings. Number entry uses Left/Right to choose a digit, Up/Down to change it and C to confirm; C selects Yes and B selects No.
