How to Play Iron Tank
Quick start
Press Start to deploy. Move the hull with the D-pad, then hold B and press a direction to rotate the turret without changing the tank's path. Fire the main cannon with A and the machine gun with B; use shells against armored targets and machine-gun fire against infantry or light threats. When the call sign flashes and Morse code sounds, press Select, move to Radio Set, and press A. Read carefully because a message cannot be reopened after returning to battle. Use the same sub-screen to check the map and activate V rapid fire, B explosive, F armor-piercing, or L long-range ammunition. If all three tanks are lost, select Continue or Password with the D-pad and confirm with A.
Controls
D-pad: move the tank in eight directions. Hold B+D-pad: rotate the gun turret independently of the hull. A: fire the main cannon in the turret's direction. B: fire the machine gun. Select: open the sub-screen and return to battle. On the sub-screen, use the D-pad to highlight the map, radio, shell items, or fuel and press A to select. Start: start the game, pause during play, and resume. Per the North American manual, A is cannon and B is machine gun; reversed online listings are incorrect.
Iron Tank — About this game
Iron Tank: The Invasion of Normandy is a single-player NES action shooter set on June 5, 1944. Paul of the secret Iron Snake unit spearheads the assault, establishes a beachhead, breaks through the front, and pushes toward enemy headquarters. The tank can move while its turret points independently in eight directions, allowing the main cannon and machine gun to cover a different line from the hull. Pickups add rapid fire, explosive power, armor piercing, or longer range, while energy, reserve fuel, and remaining tanks must be managed. Branching roads, rescued captives, and one-time radio messages provide clues about safer or more useful routes. The Select sub-screen combines the map, radio, ammunition options, fuel, score, and lives.
