How to Play Guerrilla War

Quick start

Select one or two players, then learn to tap the D-pad toward a threat before firing B because your shots follow the direction the fighter faces. Use A grenades against sandbags, emplacements, and clustered armor while keeping prisoners outside the blast. When a tank marked IN appears, stand on it and press A to board; use its stronger firepower, then press A again as soon as the vehicle begins flashing from green to red. In co-op, let one player advance while the other covers prisoners and side attackers. Prioritize red or yellow item carriers, but avoid wide flame attacks when captives are nearby.

Controls

D-pad: move and face in eight directions; weapons fire in the direction faced. B: fire the machine gun or current gun upgrade. A: throw a grenade or upgraded explosive grenade; while standing on a tank marked IN, enter it, and press A again to exit. SELECT: during play, open the status sub-screen showing score and remaining lives; press again to return. START: begin the selected mode; pause or resume during play. At the title sequence, use SELECT or the D-pad to choose one- or two-player mode and START to confirm.

Guerrilla War — About this game

Guerrilla War is the European NES edition of SNK's overhead run-and-gun shooter. One or two players simultaneously push through ten areas of an unnamed island nation, firing in eight directions, throwing grenades, breaking fortifications, and defeating the dictator's army. Red and yellow soldiers can leave weapon upgrades such as launchers, flame attacks, spread shots, and enhanced grenades. Tanks marked IN provide mobile firepower and protection, but they consume fuel and must be abandoned before they flash red and explode. Touching a captive safely awards 1,000 points, while accidentally killing one deducts 500. Unlike the Japanese Famicom release, this Western edition removes the explicit Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Cuba, and Batista names from its story.
