How to Play The Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout
Quick start
Press Start, move right with the D-pad, and practice a short A tap before committing to longer jumps. Use B early enough for the mallet arc to meet an approaching enemy instead of walking into it. Climb ladders or trees with Up and Down; when a route seems sealed, stand over a rabbit hole, pipe, drum, stump, or vase and press Down to enter it. Collect reachable carrots because their WB markers may form platforms and the total pays for bonus games, but do not risk a life for an isolated one. Hearts refill lost health. Reach the giant carrot to finish the round, and learn each Looney Tunes encounter rather than assuming every character can be struck directly.
Controls
D-pad Left/Right: walk. D-pad Up/Down: climb ladders, trees, and similar scenery. D-pad Down: enter a rabbit hole, oil drum, pipe, tree trunk, or vase when positioned over it. A: jump; in bonus rounds, select a number and swing the mallet. B: swing Bugs's mallet; in bonus rounds, also select a number and swing. Start: begin the game and pause or resume play. Select: no gameplay function is documented in the original NES guide or dedicated walkthrough.
The Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout — About this game
The Bugs Bunny Blowout is the European package title for Kemco's single-player NES platformer; North America called the same game The Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout, while Japan and the in-game title screen use Happy Birthday Bugs. Jealous Looney Tunes characters try to keep Bugs from his 50th-birthday celebration across six worlds of four rounds each. Bugs jumps between moving or crumbling platforms, climbs scenery, enters tunnels, and swings a mallet at enemies, breakable blocks, and certain projectiles. Small carrots contribute to bonus games and sometimes leave solid WB emblems that become useful footholds, while hearts restore health. A giant carrot marks the goal, with familiar characters and varied hazards complicating the route through all 24 rounds.
